Miles Macleod

Miles was elected as a councillor for Weybridge North in May 2008, after five years chairing a local residents association.  He is a strong supporter of local causes, and always keen to understand what matters for residents, businesses and the community.  He believes in keeping a careful eye on council business, asking questions, and speaking out on things that matter.

Miles is an active member of Elmbridge Borough Council with a particular interest in environmental issues and the work of the Environmental Affairs Overview and Scrutiny committee. His concerns include helping to reduce Elmbridge's Carbon Footprint, assuring the quality of the local environment, and shaping the strategy for managing parking in Elmbridge.

Miles believes it is essential that the work of councils is open to public scrutiny. He has put questions to the Leader of Elmbridge Council and to Surrey County Council local committee on issues including parking, cycling and recycling.

Local involvement

Before standing for election, Miles was chair of Portmore Park and District Residents Association. There he successfully campaigned on local issues including a sustainable solution for Walton Bridge that maintains the character of the riverside and does not encourage rat run traffic along Walton Lane.

Miles has lived in Weybridge since 1991 and cares deeply about the community, quality of life and heritage of our locality. He has promoted community involvement in helping ensure Weybridge is a good place to live, worked to moderate the impact of school traffic, and opposed the excessive development of blocks of flats.

Wider activities

With a background in psychology, Miles’s professional work involves helping people and organisations perform better. He has been married for 30 years to Vicki, who has worked in education, adult learning and business, as a teacher, lecturer and now as a coach working with businesses. Both are keen swimmers and cyclists and enjoy riverside walks.

Miles Macleod says ‘Weybridge is a great place to live. We are blessed with magnificent riversides, good homes, and a strong community. We want to be able to hand all this on to future generations. And we want a good quality of life for all who live here now. That means being responsible about the environment, maintaining essential local services, managing the impact of traffic, and making the right decisions about new developments. These are things that Liberal Democrats believe in and are prepared to stand up for.’
