Surrey Parking Amendments Process 2010

The new Parking Team at Surrey County Council has been busy. Over recent months they have considered hundreds of potential parking amendments and honed them down into a list of 80 specific proposals.

Here is how they describe the process:

"Since the last parking review was undertaken, a list has been maintained of sites where residents, councillors and Surrey County Council engineers have requested parking and loading restrictions.

The list originally comprised 319 locations, and of these it is recommended that 80 be progressed for implementation as detailed in this annex [Annex A].

The assessment involved the following two stages:-

Stage 1 An initial desktop exercise was conducted to remove requests that required a refreshment of existing restrictions and requests for restrictions, which were either clearly not practical or feasible.

Stage 2 An assessment was then conducted at the remaining locations, using a detailed scoring system which focussed on several factors including road safety, localised congestion, effect of emergency services and bus operators and levels of support, for example, high resident demand, supported by county member, local borough/district council, etc.

OFFICER RECOMMENDATIONS

The table [download the full Annex A document(pdf)Opens in a new window] details the recommendation for each of the short- listed sites. All measurements quoted are approximate and are usually provided to the nearest metre or half-metre.

The final page of this Annex A lists the locations considered as part of this review, but are not recommended to be progressed at this time.  If further clarification is sought please contact the Parking Team using the contact details provided in the main report."

Weybridge Controlled Parking: New Proposals March 2010

After some months of quiet work, the Surrey Parking team have presented proposals for 80 amendments to parking restrictions across Elmbridge, including 23 in Weybridge.

The good news is that Weybridge escapes the on-street parking meters proposed for some towns. We understand that the previous controversial proposals for a large Weybridge North CPZ have been replaced by focused actions in a number of roads badly affected by parking issues. One disappointment is that these do not include any action around the dangerous junction of Grotto Road and Thames Street. If you have particular views on the proposals, we would be interested to hear them.

On 1 March 2010, some 23 orders for new or changed parking restrictions in parts of Weybridge were provisionally agreed. We list these below, plus a link to download the full document.

Weybridge North proposals

For Weybridge North, these include:

  • (49) No waiting in parts of Dorchester, Elmgrove and Gascoigne Roads
  • (53) Residents-only parking in Holstein Avenue
  • (55) Changes to restrictions in Minorca Road
  • (58) No waiting around the junction Portmore Park Road & Devonshire Road
  • (58) Revoking the single yellow lines outside the church in Portmore Park Road
  • (66) No waiting around the junction of Wey Road and Round Oak Road

These were among the 80 numbered ‘Proposed Parking Amendments’ considered at the 1 March 2010 Surrey County Council Elmbridge Local Committee meeting. The next step is for Surrey to take the necessary legal procedure, including advertising proposals in the local press.

Weybridge roads NOT recommended

Roads in Weybridge where various suggested parking restrictions have NOT BEEN RECOMMENDED include:

  • Brooklands Avenue
  • Caenshill Road
  • Grotto Road
  • Horvath Close
  • Leavesden Road
  • Locke King Road
  • Lonsdale Road
  • Mayfield Road
  • Pine Grove
  • Thames Street, Weybridge.

The decision not to act on multiple requests to improve the safety of the Grotto Road and Thames Street junction is a particular disappointment for many people in Weybridge North, who signed a petition asking for action.

If you wish to know why your road has not been included, you are advised to contact the Surrey County Council Parking Team.
