Developing a vision

Weybridge Society initiative

Tony Palmer, on behalf of the Weybridge Society Transport panel, has started a project to develop a vision for the Weybridge Station area.

The intention is to describe short > medium > long term solutions to the current problems and how we would want the station, approaches and neighbourhood ‘developed’ to meet the strategic objectives for environment, sustainability, access, safety and transport.

We strongly support this initiative to achieve strategic improvements to the station

A Vision for Weybridge Station

Weybridge Station
Weybridge Station

Weybridge station is an essential part of our local infrastructure. We believe strategic improvements are overdue, and are in contact with South West Trains over service and facility improvements

Incremental improvements also matter, and in Elmbridge Borough Council, Cllr Miles Macleod has been pressing for improved and safer cycle storage facilities at Weybridge station, and for improved bus links to the station.

Independently, the Weybridge Society Transport panel has started a project to develop a vision for the Weybridge Station area. We strongly support this initiative.

Here are some suggestions from your local councillors.

Cllr Tim Crowther's suggestions include:

  • If increased parking space is needed it should be on NR land, which should have separate access
  • No extension of EBC car parks on both sides of railway - the existing car parks are on registered common land (and are technically illegal as proper consents were not obtained when first designated)
  • Open up south side access to station
  • Kiss and ride access route
  • Improved taxi rank facilities
  • More cycle parking
  • Escalator access to platforms
  • Improved waiting room and ticket office (larger building needed)
  • Pedestrian crossing over Brooklands Road
  • Pedestrian segregation area around station building
  • Realignment of roundabout to achieve better sight lines (particularly for traffic from station approach road) and give way for traffic travelling north from Brooklands onto roundabout.
